An Organic Clothing Movement Anniversary
May 2019 is an anniversary for Simply Chickie - it's the anniversary for why I started my business.
Fourteen years ago this month my daughter was born. It’s hard to believe my baby clothing store started while I was nursing my little girl. She is a teenager taller than me now, not in a baby onesie anymore!
I started my business, Simply Chickie, because I want to save the planet by putting a focus on the fashion industry. If we can clean up fashion, we can save the planet. People make changes when they have babies, so baby and toddler organic cotton clothing was a logical place for me to begin. It was important for me that the clothes are made in the USA, as that helps to reduce their carbon footprint and makes them more environmentally friendly.
Thinking up graphic designs for funny baby onesies is my passion. Designing clothes started after I had been creating wedding and engagement cards—and funny designs for other events that might require a card. The card business didn’t work out though—and then, my daughter Elizabeth arrived.
I decided to use my sense of humor designing clothes—baby rompers! And, if you head to the Simply Chickie Story page I discuss why organic baby clothes became a must for me after discovering I had cancer.
I would call my daughter a little chickie—thus Simply Chickie was born.
The bottom line is that I really just want to make people laugh. If I can create a connection between an Auntie and her new niece with my soft, funny organic cotton clothes. The sister of #TheBestAuntieEver then loves her more.
When we create connections on the micro level, we care about the person next to us, and there is a ripple effect that eventually helps the world. We are all linked.
And, so, I am celebrating a milestone this month. That tiny daughter of mine, 14 years ago, sparked a desire to create a movement.
