Many of you have watched me grow Simply Chickie from the day it was born. I’m really pleased how far we have come, and I’m incredibly grateful for your kindness and support.
Simply Chickie organic clothing began because the business set out to make people laugh while starting a revolution in the area of paying attention to not only what they put in their bodies, but on their bodies. The mission of our clean wear is to raise awareness about the importance of removing toxic chemicals from our environment.
As some of you know, ten years ago I found out that I was pregnant and had cancer within 24 hours. I began researching everything I was doing and eating that could possibly contribute to my cancer diagnosis. The more research I did-- I discovered that the cotton clothing I was wearing hid a dirty secret. Cotton is one of the most polluting crops in the world. Those chemicals that are sprayed on the crops get in our water and the environment. So---
I decided to start a clothing line that combined humor with the message of being environmentally friendly by using organic cotton. We are trying to bring organic cotton products to the masses by bringing the cost down and expanding our adult line—starting with women’s and hopefully growing into men’s. Because we know you want your husband to have the new Night Owl t-shirt too!
The baby, children’s and adult clothing is currently in Whole Foods in Rhode Island, small boutiques around the United States, and the www.simplychickieclothing.com website. The future goals include selling on larger platforms.
Through this campaign, Simply Chickie is also partnering with two other eco-friendly companies (who will also lend their amazing cleaning and skin care products to the perks you will receive when donating to this great cause). This cooperative project allows for all the aspects I researched that potentially cause cancer to be packaged all into one CLEAN gift!
Violets are Blue—a skin care line, out of New York, free of parabens, sulfates, alcohol, or synthetic fragrance, and The Optimist Co—a chemical free cleaning product line, out of Cape Cod.
Essentially, crowdfunding is the ability for a large group of people to band together and make small investments that collectively are enough to fund a start-up initiative. Technology platforms like Indiegogo make it possible for individuals and small teams to harness the power of social media and word of mouth to create a crowdfunding campaign.
Throughout the next month, you will receive many fun pictures in the e-mails going out during the week! They are a reminder to help spread the word. Please do!
We’d like to thank Kathleen Vanderveer and the Newport Historical Society for allowing us to film in the store, Janet Booth from Lila Delman Real Estate for providing the venue for the mama and baby video shoot, Karen Sanderson from The Beauty Counter for providing the make-up, Films by Andy for his awesome video, Kathy Staub , owner of the Jane Picken’s Theater for showing the 30 second Simply Chickie video before every single movie this month at the theater, Seema Alexander my business strategist for the Indiegogo campaign and all aspects of Simply Chickie, and all the mamas, babies, and kids who came out to be part of the video and pictures.
What a fun time!
Cheers and thank you very much for your support!
